2 week Sewing For Beginners

Service Description

Would you love to learn to sew but don't know where to start? Do you have a sewing machine but feel overwhelmed by all the knobs and dials? Would you like to gain the confidence to tackle those simple sewing jobs at home or to be able to customise, repair or alter your existing clothing instead of buying more? Can't even sew on a button? I'll show you how. Why not come and join me in my cosy sewing studio and let me explain the basics. Aimed at complete beginners or as a gentle refresher, during this 2 week course you will gain confidence in using a sewing machine with practical sessions where you will be introduced gradually to essential sewing skills by completing two new, beginner friendly projects each week. Classes are a maximum of 4 so you will get plenty of assistance. This course is the 4 week course condensed over two consecutive full day Saturdays with half an hour for lunch. (please bring packed lunch/drink) What Will I learn? Over the 2 weeks you will learn the anatomy of your machine. How to wind a bobbin and thread your machine. Be introduced to the essential sewing tool kit. How to sew straight lines and securing your stitches. Understand seam allowances. How to sew corners. How to change presser feet. How to sew a regular zipper using a zipper foot. How to make a buttonhole using a buttonhole foot. Sewing a double hem. Sewing a circle. Understanding clipping and notching. How to pin, mark and cut out your fabric. How to cover a button. Making a patch pocket. Understand seam finishing and top stitching. Sew a French seam. Understand the grain line, cross grain and the bias. Make bias binding. Simple hand stitching. Sewing on a button. What Will I Make? Week 1. An envelope back cushion cover with a button. A lined, zipped pencil/ make up/ tool case. Week 2. A lined beret with bias binding and a covered button. A tote bag with a patch pocket. What Ability Do I Need To Have? This course is aimed at absolute beginners so you will not need to have had any experience of using a sewing machine but you should be willing and excited to learn. What Equipment Do I Need? All sewing machines, tools, fabric, thread and notions will be provided. You will receive a PDF beginners handbook and PDF step by step tutorials for each project so that you can practice making again at home if you wish. What Is The Age Limit? Courses are aimed at 16 years plus. If you are under 18 an adult will need to take the course with you.


Cancellation Policy

Unfortunately, due to the small class sizes and limited availability we are unable to issue refunds for classes, courses, studio access or 1 to 1 bookings so please be sure you can attend before booking. We are unable to refund for the class due to students no longer being able to attend any of the scheduled sessions due to illness, injury etc. In the event that we have to cancel a class we will inform you as soon as possible. You will be offered a refund in vouchers, a full refund made by the same method used to make your purchase, or we will try to accommodate you on a different date if possible. We reserve the right to postpone a class that has less than 50% student sign up. In this case we will contact you as soon as possible to offer a rescheduled class, if this is not possible a full refund will be made by the same method used to make your payment. We reserve the right to offer discounts on classes at any time. This discount only applies to bookings made at the time of and in relation to the offer. We cannot apply this discount after the fact to class/ course booking payments already made.
